Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has blasted Marcus Rashford’s attempts to force a transfer out of Old Trafford as “soul-destroying”, claiming he “doesn’t deserve” a move to Barcelona.
Rashford, along with Anthony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia, have been told by United boss Ruben Amorim to find a new club.
While none of those who have faced expulsion from the squad have found a suitor as of yet, Rashford has been of interest to Barcelona.
The Catalan club are said to hold a strong interest in the 27-year-old, who spent the second half of last season at Aston Villa, but are not willing to match United’s £40million valuation of the player.

There was a similar story at Villa Park, who could not justify forking out the substantial fee for the winger.
Sheringham, who made over 100 appearances for the Red Devils and won a Champions League, three consecutive Premier League titles and a host of domestic trophies, knows exactly what it means to play at Old Trafford.
The 59-year-old played a key role during one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most successful eras at the club, including scoring one of two late goals against Bayern Munich during their historic treble-winning season.

The forward, though, has slammed Rashford for his poor form and forcing a move away from Old Trafford, claiming he has “thrown it away”.
Speaking to Sky Bet, Sheringham said: “If you assess where Marcus Rashford is at as a professional footballer, you strive as a youngster to get to the very top and play for clubs like Manchester United, and when you’re there, you appreciate it.
“You don’t throw it away and say you want to leave.”

While the perception is that both the player and club are looking to part ways, the former United No10 criticised Rashford’s form, claiming a move to the Camp Nou would be undeserved.
“From my perspective, if you go from Manchester United to Barcelona, that’s a step up he hasn’t deserved,” he continued.
“I find the whole episode very soul-destroying, compared to the way I was back in the day and how I strove to get the privilege to play for such a huge football club.

“To hear someone talking the way he is talking, saying he wants out – I didn’t like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doing that at Arsenal, I thought it was soul-destroying, and I hope Rashford doesn’t get the move that he’s hankering for.”
Over the last two years, the English international has scored just 13 goals in 58 Premier League appearances, and learning of Barcelona’s interest did come as a surprise to a section of supporters.
But the problem may be larger than Rashford at United.
The winger is just one part of a quintet of players who are looking to leave the club, as Amorim looks to clear house for his United revolution.
Rashford did display moments of brilliance during his short spell at Villa, albeit few and far between, before his injury in April kept him out for the season.
Where the 27-year-old will play his football next year, though, remains unseen for the near future, but what is for certain is that it will not be at Old Trafford.
Rashford has made 426 appearances at United, scoring 138 goals since his debut under Louis van Gaal in 2015.
