Manchester City are facing 115 charges of Financial Fair Play dating from 2009 to 2018 with the hearing getting underway on Monday.
A decision is expected after several months, though it could take longer to decide on a punishment if City are found guilty.
One of the sternest punishments possible includes relegation, though this is seen as extreme, as well as points deductions and fines as other possible penalties.
Among the many charges include City accused of funnelling money through sponsors in the United Arab Emirates that actually came from the club's owners.
