The problems are mounting at Old Trafford

Manchester United star Noussair Mazraoui has undergone a procedure after experiencing heart palpitations, in another blow to Erik ten Hag.

The Morocco international joined the fallen giants from Bayern Munich back in the summer transfer window.

He has since established himself a key player for Ten Hag, with the defender normally starting at right-back with Diogo Dalot shunted to the left.

Mazraoui recently withdrew from the Morocco squad after being substituted at half time during United's goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday.

It has now emerged that the former Ajax defender has been experiencing heart palpitations.

The United star has undergone what is being described as a 'minor procedure', with the surgery a success.

But the Red Devils will still have to cope without Mazraoui for the foreseeable future, with the player expected to be out for a few weeks.

It has been a nightmare season for United so far, with the club picking up just eight points from their first seven Premier League matches.

Ten Hag, as a result, has found himself under huge pressure.

United chiefs held a six-hour meeting in London earlier this week, with the 54-year-old inevitably discussed.

They are yet to wield the axe, however, and there's a sense that Ten Hag's job is safe for the time being - despite reports saying Thomas Tuchel is waiting in the wings to take over.

With Mazraoui now out, Ten Hag has a selection dilemma on his hands.

He did recently confirm, however, that Luke Shaw could soon be back in action - with the left-back yet to make a single appearance since the final of Euro 2024.

“On the left-back, they are improving but we hope Luke Shaw can return after the international break quickly," he said last week.

The United boss also confirmed Tyrell Malacia was making good progress, too.

The Netherlands international missed the whole of last season but, at long last, is closing in on a return to action.

“I don't know if it's the first game, we're hoping for [it], but I can't, in this moment, tell this with 100 per cent security," he added about Shaw.

“But, yeah, from now on, we have two-and-a-half weeks to work to that point. And, shortly after, he'll be there.

“Tyrell is making good progress on the pitch but has to make the step to full team training.”

United are next in action against Brentford on October 19.

The Bees currently have two more points than United this season, with Thomas Frank continuing to work wonders.

Frank was actually linked with Ten Hag's job back in the summer, only for the Red Devils to end up keeping the Dutchman instead.
