The Dutchman oversaw Sunday's narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal

Erik ten Hag potentially resigning from his post as Manchester United manager is something being discussed in the 'corridors of power' at Old Trafford, according to reports.

The Dutchman arrived with big expectations back in 2022, having worked wonders during his time at Ajax.

United had a positive first season under Ten Hag last term, winning the Carabao Cup and finishing third in the Premier League table.

This season, however, the 54-year-old has been powerless to prevent his side from falling apart.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday, suffering a 14th Premier League defeat of the season as a result.

They are eighth in the table, a huge 32 points behind the Gunners at the top.

Yet while there's talk of Ten Hag potentially being sacked, the prospect of the Dutchman resigning has also been raised.

The Daily Mail say some feel staff members feel that he 'could walk' due to his power at the club being due to diminish.

With Sir Dave Brailsford and Jason Wilcox now working at United, they're set to decide which players the Red Devils sign - rather than the manager.

And with Ten Hag also being set to work on a restricted budget, it seems the possibility of the Dutchman quitting can't be ruled out.

When it comes to replacements, there's no standout candidate.

Thomas Tuchel has been linked with United, with the German due to leave Bayern Munich after a turbulent season at the Allianz Arena.

With Tuchel a combative character, however, the Red Devils have some concerns about bringing him to Old Trafford.

Gareth Southgate has also been tipped to take over at United, though has since shut down talk of a move by saying he's focused on winning the upcoming European Championships with England.

Graham Potter is available but his reputation has been tarnished after a dire spell at Chelsea.

And while Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim have worked wonders at Brighton and Sporting Lisbon respectively, both men would represent gambles.

Meanwhile, United legend Roy Keane has provided his verdict on Ten Hag's future.

The Red Devils icon would like to see Ten Hag given time, despite the club's shambolic results.

“I hope he’s given more time," he said.

After Ten Hag was upbeat in his post-match interview, Keane added: "He's an experienced manager.

"(It's) certainly not easy getting interviewed after the game where the stats for this team are so bad, in terms of the record defeats, where they are in the table, their struggles in Europe...

"Yeah they have a cup final coming up in a few weeks, it's a tough interview.

"He's trying to stay positive, tough questions he has been asked about the players behind him, is he tactically up to it.

"(Is he) tactically up to it? I would like to think so.

"I think there has been genuine problems at the club, the injuries, he's pretty honest with that side of it.

"But the more games you are losing and when you are eighth in the table, I suppose you end up losing that belief.

"But I would never sit in the studio and think: 'I hope the manager should lose his job' or anything like that.

"I hope he is given more time. When they get to the summer they can regroup and restructure the club, whatever that may be.

"There are huge problems at the club but I hope he is given a chance to get things right, because last year there were some positives, you have to be honest with that. But there are huge challenges coming up and he is under huge pressure."
