The Dutchman oversaw a difficult night at the Gtech Community Stadium, with the Red Devils struggling during the showdown in the capital

Erik ten Hag is in hot water with Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday 'going down badly' in Sir Jim Ratcliffe's camp, according to reports.

The Red Devils were well below par but looked like they would leave the capital with all three points when Mason Mount struck.

However, a goal from Kristoffer Ajer in the 109th minute earned a well-deserved draw for Thomas Frank's side.

Ten Hag won the Carabao Cup last term and guided United to third in the Premier League table.

Yet the fallen giants have gone backwards under the Dutchman this term, leading to uncertainty over his position.

The likes of Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate and Roberto De Zerbi have all been linked with United amid uncertainty over Ten Hag's future.

And the Daily Telegraph say the 1-1 draw with Brentford has 'gone down badly' in Ratcliffe's camp.

The INEOS chief is yet to make a final decision on Ten Hag's future.

But conceding 31 shots against Brentford will do little to help the 54-year-old's cause as he fights to keep his job at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are next in action against Chelsea on Thursday night (8.15pm).

And failing to beat the Blues at Stamford Bridge would all but end United's hopes of securing Champions League football for next season.

Chelsea go into that contest on the back of a disappointing result of their own, having drawn 2-2 with Burnley on Saturday.

United beat Chelsea 2-1 earlier in the season.

Scott McTominay bagged a brace that day, with Cole Palmer only netting a consolation for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Ten Hag was asked about United's abject performance against Brentford in his post-match press conference.

And the Dutchman conceded his side didn't deserve to win, while also calling for more desire from his players.

“We didn’t deserve to win," he admitted.

“But if you’re winning you have to take this. I would say normally we are very good in these circumstances.

“We showed resilience all through the game but in points of aggressiveness Brentford were better.

"We should show more passion and desire at many moments in the game.

"When you don’t play well you still have to win and we did it almost – that is my big disappointment that we didn’t bring it over the line. "There was spirit and there was fight but not enough.”

United have now conceded a staggering 254 shots in their past 12 games.

But Ten Hag attempted to justify that damning statistic by saying it doesn't bother him.

“As long as we get results, no,” he said.

"We defended low at times and because Brentford are very direct, we lost many second balls.

"You have to defend the box and that is what we did quite well. The goalkeeper was brilliant – we have to say that.

"Our results are quite consistent from January on: we concede shots but we don’t concede goals.”
