Erik ten Hag's side mounted a stirring comeback to secure all three points at Old Trafford

Manchester United fans have compared Alejandro Garnacho to Cristiano Ronaldo after the youngster's impressive performance against Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils seemed to be staring down the barrel of another defeat after goals from John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker.

Yet United mounted a stunning comeback in the second half, with Garnacho playing a starring role.

The teenager netted twice before Rasmus Hojlund bagged the winner, with the Denmark international also netting his first Premier League goal for his new club.

It was just what United needed, having gone four matches without a goal.

Garnacho was serenaded by fans inside the ground after the match, with the 19-year-old visibly delighted at the ovation he received.

And supporters online have now compared the Argentina international to Ronaldo, with one X user saying: "I see a Ronaldo in this boy Garnacho."

A second said: "Something tells me Garnacho is our next Ronaldo."

A third stated: "Garnacho reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo."

A fourth weighed in with: "Alejandro Garnacho is full-on young Cristiano Ronaldo vibes!

"He has got that thing in him."

And a fifth said: "Garnacho. We have one there, Boyz. He's oddly like a Ronaldo-Messi combo."

Now, the onus will be on United to ensure their victory isn't another false dawn.

It has been a truly chastening season for the club so far and they can't afford any more setbacks as they look to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Garnacho will be key if United are to finish in the top four.

And they'll be hoping for another positive result when they lock horns with Nottingham Forest on December 30 (5.30pm).

Meanwhile, Ten Hag was delighted with his forwards after United beat Villa - with the 53-year-old also insisting his side have received too much unfair criticism.

"I am so happy that the strikers scored today, because that is what we needed," said the Dutchman.

"I know they are capable of that, Rasmus and Rashford and Garnacho.

"They are all good finishers and we have more than that too.

"They have to show it every game. Be accountable, believe in yourself and be ready to take the chance and score a goal.

"People only saw the result and judged the result at West Ham but we also played a solid game there.

"But they see the result and only complain. I know that football is about results and you get judged by them, that is normal, but as a manager you also have to see the performance, and we dictated the game at West Ham too."

Villa boss Unai Emery, meanwhile, praised United for the way they performed as they took all three points.

"Manchester United. When they scored their first goal the support here [at Old Trafford], the atmosphere came back and pushed them. They have very good players," jje said.

"Of course we have to be demanding of ourselves but accepting as well.

"Playing Manchester United here they can come back in the style that they did.

"I want to see the match with the first 60 minutes, which was very good, then we have to take experiences. The level we want to get to we have to improve.

"Some of our players already have that experience and of course some of them are now learning and gaining those experiences. Manchester United have more experience than us, more time than us being at the top level."
