The France international was absent for his side's 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal on Wednesday night

Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has been taken to hospital with gastroenteritis after missing his side's 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal at the Club World Cup on Wednesday evening.

The France international was absent as Los Blancos' hopes of glory got off to a stuttering start in Miami.

Real went ahead through Goncalo Garcia, only for former Wolves star Ruben Neves to level for the Saudi Pro League side from the penalty spot.

Xabi Alonso's team looked like they'd snatch victory at the death, only for Federico Valverde to see his effort saved.

Mbappe, after missing the match, has now been taken to hospital.

The club said in a statement: "Our player Kylian Mbappe is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment."

Mbappe joined Real 12 months ago on a free transfer from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

After a glittering spell at the Parc des Princes, the 26-year-old hit the ground running at his new side by scoring 43 goals across all competitions from 56 matches.

However, much to Mbappe's frustration, Real weren't able to win any silverware.

Barcelona secured glory in both LaLiga and the Copa del Rey as they made a flying start to the Hansi Flick era.

And Real's hopes of Champions League glory were ended by Arsenal, who won home and away to send them tumbling out of the competition.

PSG went on to win the tournament, crushing Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich to claim it for the first time.

Meanwhile, Real's 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal marked their first match under new manager Xabi Alonso.

The 43-year-old recently replaced Carlo Ancelotti, having worked wonders during his time in charge of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

And Alonso was calm after the game, with the Spaniard adamant that turning things around will be a 'process' as he pleaded for patience.

"The second half was much better than the first," he said in his post-match press conference.

"In the first half we lacked a lot of things, we didn't have balance. We've talked about that.

"I liked the reaction. We were able to change our rhythm, have more control, and play more in the opposition half. It's a process. We have to take the positives and look to improve."

He continued: "I knew it would take time.

"There are things we have to change. We'll have to correct them, and we'll keep doing that.

"Everything takes time, we've had nine days, and some players have had just three training sessions.

"It's demanding, we're in a competition, but we want to learn, and what we want to do will take time."

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois added: "[Alonso] wants to see his way of playing, a different way to defend and a different way to attack.

"We were with Ancelotti for four years, we have some 'automatisms' and we have to change them to what the new coach wants."
