The Real Madrid star scored in the dying stages to prevent the Three Lions from losing a second match at Wembley in a row

Jude Bellingham has hailed Kobbie Mainoo after the 18-year-old impressed during England's 2-2 draw with Belgium on Tuesday.

However, the Real Madrid star has looked to dampen some of the hype surrounding the teenager as he continues to adjust to life in the big time.

Mainoo has been a key player for Manchester United this season, a shining light amid a turbulent campaign under Erik ten Hag.

And, days after impressing off the bench against Brazil, the youngster sparkled from the start against Belgium.

Mainoo was a positive for England on a night when the likes of Jordan Pickford, Lewis Dunk and Ben Chilwell all struggled.

Bellingham was pleased with the performance of the Red Devils midfield maestro.

However, the 20-year-old also urged caution by saying he didn't want to add 'fuel to the fire'.

"He was good tonight," Bellingham said of Mainoo after his last-gasp goal earned a draw for England.

"It's difficult, and I am speaking like the old head here, but I know how hard it can be when there's a clamour and people put a lot of pressure on you.

"So I don't want to add fuel to the fire, but he's definitely a brilliant player and he's going to have an amazing future at Manchester United and hopefully for England as well."

Gareth Southgate was also asked about Mainoo.

The 53-year-old started the United star alongside Bellingham and Declan Rice in the middle of the park.

And Southgate also praised Mainoo, insisting the United midfielder has the talent and attitude to play at the highest level.

"Just that he has had a fabulous week with us," he said when asked what he told Mainoo after substituting the youngster.

"Everything that we've seen with his club, he reproduced in an England shirt which isn't always the case.

"Very calm, receives the ball so well under pressure, strong, so we are a little bit more open playing that way but the benefits with the ball were clear to see."

He continued: "He seems very calm. You can see he is taking everything in.

"Talking to him tactically, he seems able to take all those concepts on.

"A lot of young players now, with their academy education, are able to do that. You can see his comfort with the ball and receiving in tight areas.

"There are a lot of steps being taken in a very short period of time, but you saw in the brief cameo the other day some of the qualities he has.

"Sometimes, with the really young ones, they are not even thinking about that.

"It is all flowing and maybe then as you get a bit older you start to think about it a bit more.

"It is a beautiful, innocent moment when he is just in the flow and lapping up the opportunities as they come."

Regarding the result, meanwhile, Southgate feels England got the draw they deserved.

"I thought we controlled the game – possession tells us that – and we created a lot of chances so the piece of our game where the quality wasn't there [against Brazil] was much better tonight," he admitted.

“Yes, we conceded poor goals and were vulnerable in the transition but that's the trade-off we had with the profile of players on the pitch.

"I thought with the character shown, we really deserved to take something from the game."
