The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham manager has been dismissed from his post at Fenerbahce

Jose Mourinho has been sacked from his role as head coach at Fenerbahce - just two games into the season.

The 62-year-old was relieved of his duties just a day after the club's Champions League exit at the hands of Benfica at the qualifying stage.

The legendary coach had been in charge of the Turkish giants since August 2024, just months after he was sacked at Roma.

It had been a turbulent time in charge of Fenerbahce for The Special One, who frequently called out the Super Lig's officials during his one year in charge.

Mourinho failed to win any silverware during his 12 months in charge of the Istanbul-based outfit.

Last season, they were beaten by Rangers in the Europa League and also tasted defeat in the Turkish Cup in the round of 16.

Fenerbahce lost 1-0 to Benfica on Wednesday night in the second leg of their Champions League play-off, having drawn 0-0 in Istanbul last week.

Turkey international Keres Akturkoglu scored the only goal of the tie, relegating Fenerbahce to the Europa League as a result.

And that has appeared to be the last straw for the Fenerbahce hierarchy, who had expected Champions League football at a minimum.

In astonishing fashion, club vice-president had claimed that his side would ‘easily’ beat Benfica.

Mourinho responded in equally jaw-dropping fashion, saying: "Believe it or not, but I don't know who he is.

"I don't know this person, nor his influence, let alone his importance in the structure of the club. No one has ever introduced me."

Mourinho's sacking comes after a difficult season where they finished runners-up to arch-rivals Galatasaray in the Super Lig.

Fenerbahce are currently five points behind their Istanbul rivals in the league while Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premier League.

Last October, Mourinho spoke out on where his next job could be.

He said: "The best thing I have to do is - when I leave Fenerbahce - I go to a club that doesn't play Uefa competitions.

"So if any club in England, from the bottom of the table, needs a coach in two years - I am ready to go."

There has been speculation that West Ham or Nottingham Forest could eye a move for the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager.

There has been intense heat on both managers, with Graham Potter under fire after a tough start to life at the London Stadium.

Meanwhile, a bust-up between Nuno Espirito Santo and Evangelos Marikanis threatens to see the Portuguese coach axed.
