Bayern Munich thrashed Tottenham 4-0 in a friendly while Harry Kane had a night to remember

Harry Kane experienced a rollercoaster opening quarter-hour against his former employers at the Allianz Arena on Thursday evening.

The England captain required just 12 minutes to find the net, expertly controlling Michael Olise's lofted pass before beating Guglielmo Vicario with a composed finish.

The 32-year-old striker refrained from celebrating against the club where he netted 280 times in 435 matches.

However, his evening took a dramatic turn moments later when he stepped up for a penalty.

Kane lost his footing whilst striking the ball, sending his effort soaring high above the crossbar.

One supporter branded it the "worst penalty I've ever seen" following the spectacular mishap.

Bayern's superiority became increasingly evident as the match progressed.

The German champions doubled their advantage when Konrad Laimer won possession from Djed Spence before setting up Kingsley Coman, who elegantly bent the ball into the net.

The hosts maintained complete control throughout the encounter, particularly during the final 30 minutes when they added three further goals.

Vincent Kompany's side demonstrated their depth and quality against a Tottenham team preparing for their season opener in the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain on 13 August in Udine.

Bayern's dominance extended beyond their established stars as Kompany introduced several academy products during the second period.

The substitutions proved inspired when 17-year-old Lennart Karl unleashed a stunning first-time strike from 18 yards.

Fellow teenager Jonah Kusi-Asare, aged 18, added further gloss to the scoreline with an expertly-placed effort from the edge of the penalty area.

Both youngsters demonstrated remarkable composure after replacing Kane and other senior players midway through the second half.

This marked Kane's second appearance against Tottenham since his £86.4 million transfer to Bavaria in 2023, having previously featured as a substitute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer.

LATEST SPORT NEWS:

The striker remains Spurs' record goalscorer following his prolific 435-game stint in north London.

The penalty incident proved particularly awkward for new Tottenham loanee Joao Palhinha, who conceded the spot-kick after fouling Josip Stanisic.

The Portuguese midfielder had only joined Spurs from Bayern on loan days earlier, with an option for a permanent £26 million transfer next summer.

Luis Diaz, Bayern's summer acquisition from Liverpool, also featured in the starting eleven for the pre-season fixture.
