The team, praised by Starmer as 'trailblazers in every sense,' not only captured a second consecutive Euros title but also inspired millions, including his own daughter.
He emphasised that the Lionesses had exemplified values such as integrity, resilience, and respect—qualities he believes shaped their success in Switzerland.
England secured the title with a nail-biting win over Spain in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, where standout performances from Chloe Kelly and goalkeeper Hannah Hampton sealed glory.

Both players are widely expected to feature in the next New Year’s Honours list, with manager Sarina Wiegman tipped to receive an Honorary Damehood for leading the team to back-to back titles.
In a column for The Sun, Starmer described the team’s campaign as 'extraordinary', adding that official commendations are being prepared to match their achievement.
He said: "What Sarina and our Lionesses have achieved is nothing short of remarkable.

"So recognition is coming — and it will be worthy of their historic success.
"But the greatest tribute will be to use the inspiration of this summer to deliver a legacy the Lionesses have fought for: equal access to all sport for girls and boys.
"This government is rolling up its sleeves and making that a reality. The Lionesses have made an entire nation proud.We’re determined to deliver a legacy they can be proud of too."

Starmer attended the final in Basel’s St Jakob-Park, where Hampton made two crucial saves and Kelly converted the winning spot-kick.
Although honours decisions are handled discreetly by the Cabinet Office, public tributes to sporting success are a long-standing tradition.
After the Lionesses' 2022 win, players like Leah Williamson (OBE), Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead, and Ellen White (MBEs) were all recognised.

Other sports icons, including Gareth Southgate, England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup team, and the 2005 Ashes cricket squad, have previously been celebrated in similar fashion.
