Chelsea have secured the signing of teenage Dutch defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax in a £37 million transfer, with the 19-year-old agreeing to a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The versatile defender becomes the FIFA Club World Cup holders' eighth acquisition of the summer transfer window, pushing their total expenditure to nearly £250million.
"I'm very excited, I'm so happy to be here," Hato said after completing his medical in London over the weekend.
"I thought a lot about my future and wanted to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place for me to do that so I'm very happy."
The Netherlands international's arrival adds to a summer recruitment drive that has already seen the Blues bring in Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Mamadou Sarr, Dario Essugo, Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez.

Hato's rise through Ajax's renowned youth system has been meteoric, with the defender making his first-team debut at just 16 years and 335 days old in 2023.
This achievement placed him as the Amsterdam club's third-youngest Eredivisie player, following only Clarence Seedorf and Ryan Gravenberch.
The teenager's rapid progression saw him assume the captaincy at 17, establishing a new record as Ajax's youngest-ever skipper.

His international breakthrough came equally swiftly, earning his first Netherlands cap against Gibraltar in 2023 and accumulating six appearances for his country.
The defender's adaptability has proven crucial to his development, with his 111 Ajax appearances split between centre-back and left-back duties.
During the 2023-24 campaign, he featured predominantly as a central defender, but last season saw him deployed almost exclusively at left-back under new management.
Chelsea's acquisition of Hato represents a victory over Premier League rivals Liverpool and Arsenal, both of whom had been monitoring the teenager's progress closely.

The young defender has drawn comparisons to Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk rather than Manchester United's Matthijs de Ligt, despite De Ligt holding the record as the Netherlands' youngest debutant since 1931.
The club believe his trajectory could mirror that of the Liverpool captain, and have invested early in his services.
Hato has openly acknowledged modelling his playing style on Van Dijk from an early age, earning recognition from the Liverpool defender himself.
When Hato received the Eredivisie's best young player award last season, Van Dijk joined teammates Cody Gakpo and Gravenberch in congratulating him on social media.

Arsenal's interest cooled after signing Riccardo Calafiori, another versatile left-sided defender, whilst Liverpool prioritised attacking reinforcements this window.
Hato's arrival addresses Enzo Maresca's need for defensive reinforcements, particularly on the left side where Ben Chilwell has fallen out of favour.
The Dutchman will provide competition for Marc Cucurella, who logged 5,000 minutes across club and country last season as Chelsea's sole natural left-back option.
Whilst capable of operating as a full-back, Hato's long-term future likely lies centrally, where Chelsea currently have seven options but only Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile are naturally left-footed.
Badiashile's campaign was disrupted by a December hamstring injury, and Colwill managed just three Premier League starts, highlighting the need for additional depth.
Chelsea's recruitment continues with RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons and Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho remaining targets, whilst academy product Tyrique George could depart amid increased competition for places.
