Chelsea beat Real Betis 4-1 to win the Europa Conference League on Wednesday

Chelsea pair Reece James and Cole Palmer were locked in an awkward moment straight after beating Real Betis 4-1 to win the Europa Conference League.

The Blues came from behind to win the competition, eventually turning on the style in the second-half with four unanswered goals to become the first club ever to win all three European tournaments.

No other club had won the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League before Wednesday night.

Coupled with the fact that Chelsea clinched Champions League football last week with a win over Nottingham Forest and it must be considered a good season.

Or at least you might think so, but that was not the response from club captain James or star man Palmer.

After being pulled for an interview by TNT Sports straight after full-time in Wroclaw, James was asked if he considered the year a good season.

The right-back hesitated before pointing to Palmer and saying: "I'll let you answer that."

After being asked the question again, an unfazed Palmer responded: "Ask the captain."

It comes after what has been a successful season for Chelsea, winning European silverware and landing a spot in the top four.

But it could have been so much better after a bright start to the campaign.

It led some to believe they could challenge for the Premier League but they faded quickly during a busy festive period.

As a result, it left Chelsea scrambling for a spot in the top-five, leading to a dramatic last day in the Premier League when they beat Nottingham Forest to land fourth.

And even in the Europa Conference League final, they started iffy with Abde Ezzalzouli opening the scoring at the Tarczynski Arena in the ninth minute.

However, Chelsea rallied after the break to sweep Real Betis aside as their quality told in the end.

And it all started with Palmer, who showed his class with two brilliant assists to see the Blues take the lead.

The first came with a pinpoint cross for Enzo Fernandez, who crashed into the box to nod past Adrian.

The second was arguably more impressive, spinning a Real Betis defender and leaving him for dead before firing in a cross that Nicolas Jackson converted on 70 minutes.

Jadon Sancho came off the bench to score a gut-punching goal for Betis before Moises Caicedo completed the second-half rout with a beautifully-worked effort.

Whether or not Palmer or James consider this year a good season for Chelsea remains unanswered but it has certainly been a promising one for this young team.
