The Argentine is not concerned about some fans wanting Mourinho back

Mauricio Pochettino insists Chelsea fans will not love any coach more than him, including Jose Mourinho.

Blues supporters have sung Mourinho's name during recent matches in a signal that they would welcome him back amid ongoing issues on the pitch.

The Portuguese coach is currently out of work since being sacked by Italian side Roma in January after two-and-a-half years in charge.

He previously spent two spells at Chelsea, winning seven major trophies including three Premier League titles.

Mourinho was twice sacked by the Blues, last leaving the club in December 2015 after losing nine of the first 16 Premier League games that season.

He has since gone on to manage two of Chelsea's rivals in Manchester United and Tottenham, enjoying mixed success.

But many fans have seemingly forgiven the 61-year-old and would welcome him back amid another difficult season on the pitch.

Pochettino says it is unfair to compare the current Chelsea team with previous generations.

And he boldly claimed that the supporters would not love any coach more than him.

He said: "It is completely unfair, sometimes, to compare different periods of the club as the circumstances are different than in the past.

"It is impossible to see if you are better, another is better, or now someone different can do worse or better.

"Today is a different project. It’s a different Chelsea. If you are going to judge us, analysing the situation, comparing it with the past of Chelsea, for sure, no one is going to succeed.

"The fans are not going to love another coach any more [than me]. It’s a new project, and people need to understand.

"I came here because I knew it is going to be tough, but I always knew we would need time and belief.

"The project is about young players and a new team, always you need time."

Asked specifically about Mourinho, Pochettino admits he did 'amazing' things for Chelsea.

And he says the players should make their feelings clear to the hierarchy if they want a change in the dugout.

The Argentine added: "I respect Jose. He’s my friend and he was amazing for this club. Circumstances are circumstances.

"We need to keep pushing, believing in us, and accept all the things that came from the fans. Of course, I respect the fans.

"You need to ask the players. If the players believe that with another coach they’ll do better, I am the first to say: 'Hey, they can go and talk with the owner and the sporting director'."

He said: "It's true that [the players] are young, but we like to help them. We like to talk, to train, to support. We are supporting them.

"The fans don't know. The players are so young, playing at Wembley in a final. Maybe they didn't sleep the night before.

"No [I won't quit], no, no. Why? Never."
