The Gunners continue to spend big this summer

Arsenal have secured the services of England international Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £48.5 million. The transfer fee could reach £52million when performance-related add-ons are included.

The 23-year-old winger departed Chelsea's Club World Cup camp in the United States before their final victory over Paris St-Germain to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium.

He has committed to a five-year contract with Mikel Arteta's side.

The transfer marks Arsenal's fourth acquisition of the summer transfer window and their second signing from Chelsea, following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's earlier arrival.

Arsenal have announced the £48.5million signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea

Madueke will wear the number 20 shirt at Arsenal, taking over from Jorginho who donned it before departing for Flamengo earlier this summer.

The shirt has been worn by several players in the Premier League era, including Nuno Tavares, Shkodran Mustafi, Mathieu Flamini, Johan Djourou, Philippe Senderos and Matthew Upson.

The versatile attacker, who can operate on either flank, will compete for places with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

The England international posted a farewell message on Instagram thanking Chelsea for his time at the club, reading: "To Enzo Maresca, it was a privilege to play under you, thank you for trying to better me as a player and as a person.

"We achieved so much this season and I honestly wish you guys nothing but the best."

In an unusual twist, Madueke specifically thanked supporters for their criticism alongside their praise. "Lastly thank you to every single Chelsea fan.

"Thank you for the love, the praise and also the criticism, I appreciate it all. I leave here with nothing but fond memories," he concluded.

Madueke made 92 appearances for Chelsea after joining from PSV Eindhoven for £30 million in January 2023, scoring 20 goals and helping the Blues win the Conference League last season.

He earned his first England cap in August 2024 and provided the assist for Harry Kane's winner against Andorra in World Cup qualification last month.

Noni Madueke made his England debut while impressing at Chelsea

His arrival prompted controversy among some Arsenal supporters, with a petition titled #NoToMadueke attracting over 5,000 signatures.

Although, this faced harsh backlash from the football community, with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand describing the petition as "vulgar behaviour".

The winger becomes Arsenal's latest addition alongside midfielders Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

The Gunners are also reportedly close to completing deals for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.

Arteta's side are also said to have agreed a deal to extend young star Ethan Nwaneri's contract until 2030, which would present another huge boost for the club.
