And Hansen played 26 times for Scotland across an eight-year period, too.

Graeme Souness, who is close to the Liverpool icon, recently said his former team-mate sounded 'fabulous' after they spoke on the phone.

"He's been in a difficult place but the way he sounded yesterday, he's back, and I hope I'm right."

He added: "He's not a colleague, he's a good friend. When people become ill, people always talk about how much of a great guy there that person was.

"I'm telling you now, he's a real human being. It's hard to find a bad word about him.

"He's a rascal when it comes to humour, he was very smart with that.

"I, like every person who comes across him or listened to him on the television, say a little prayer for him."
