The circuit is due to host a race at the end of August

Officials at the Circuit Zandvoort have been forced to issue a statement after fake reports were released claiming there was damage to the circuit caused by flooding on Monday.

The circuit is due to host its penultimate Grand Prix at the end of August, before it hosts its final race in 2027. A storm brutally hit the northern coast of the Netherlands on Monday, with reportedly over 50 centimetres falling throughout the day.

Streets in the centre of Zandvoort were flooded, forcing the fire department and the police to pump the excess water out of the streets.

Concerns were raised on social media about the state of the circuit after images of the flooding went viral.

The organisers took to Instagram on Tuesday to reassure fans they had nothing to worry about.

They wrote: "Yesterday’s heavy rain sparked some fake news about damage to the circuit. Early this morning, our team inspected the entire layout and found no damage, no delays.

"The surface is dry, clean, and 100 per cent race-ready. In fact, since this morning, the F1 Academy has been out on track for their scheduled practice sessions without any issues. All sessions are running exactly as planned."

The weather left the track out of action on Monday as a group of students were supposed to be using the circuit.

A team from the Delft University of Technology was supposed to be testing a hydrogen-powered car on the race track, but was unable to do so.

Renzo Bootsma, one of the students, told NH News: "Our car runs on hydrogen, but it can't handle that much water. It's a shame because we were supposed to do our first longer test drive tonight."
