Lewis Hamilton is set to follow in Michael Schumacher's footsteps by driving for Ferrari.

Former F1 star Giancarlo Fisichella believes Michael Schumacher would have given his seal of approval to Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari and 'would be happy' if the British superstar won an eighth title in the famous red car.

The world of F1 was stunned earlier this year when an agreement was announced for Hamilton to leave Mercedes and join Ferrari from the 2025 season.

Both Hamilton and Ferrari had been linked to one another for several years, but it appeared as though any possibility of them working together had long passed.

The 39-year-old had penned a two-year deal with Mercedes at the end of last season with Hamilton admitting on a regular basis that he saw himself ending his career with the Silver Arrows.

But as soon as an opportunity arose in the off season for Hamilton and Ferrari to finally team up, both jumped at the chance in a move that is set to send shockwaves around the grid next year.

Hamilton is still regarded as one of the best drivers on the grid and his desire to continue racing into his 40s suggests he still has hopes of winning that elusive eighth world championship.

Reaching the landmark in a Ferrari - the very same manufacturer that made Schumacher famous - would carry significant weight in the greatest of all time debate.

Fisichella, who spent 11 years racing in F1 at the same time as Schumacher, is confident the German racing icon would have no hard feelings about Hamilton potentially winning a record eighth world title in a Ferrari.

"For sure, Michael Schumacher would be happy to see Lewis Hamilton driving for Ferrari next year and winning the championship, why not?,' Fisichella told OCB Scores.

"I know that Schumacher would have made a great team principal.

"I don't know his condition because nobody knows about it, but I wish him nothing but the best and hope he can come back soon.

"Fisichella ended his F1 career with Ferrari after joining from Force India midway through the 2009 season.

He knows better than most the kind of pressure that comes with driving for Ferrari with the team looking for their first world champion driver since Kimi Raikkonen in 2007.

But Fisichella doesn't think Hamilton will have any concerns when he eventually makes the move to Ferrari.

"There will be more pressure because Ferrari is a dream for a lot of drivers, not just Italian drivers.

"For example Michael Schumacher, Nikki Lauda, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso are just a few.

"For Hamilton, a guy with a lot of experience, he doesn't care about the pressure, especially at this stage of his career. He just needs a good car to show his talent."
