The 17-year-old has propelled himself up the Premier League table with a big win

Luke Littler has thanked his girlfriend after he picked up his first nightly win in the Premier League on Thursday.

The teenager has moved up to second in the table and is now well placed to qualify for the play-offs at London's O2 Arena.

Littler beat Luke Humphries in his quarter-final, ending the world No 1 and world champion's nine-match winning streak in the tournament.

He then overcame seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen in the semi-final and has leapfrogged the Dutchman in the table.

Littler faced stablemate Nathan Aspinall in the final and quickly found himself trailing 3-1.

But he bounced back in fine style to win 6-4 and pick up another five points in his maiden Premier League campaign.

Littler has been dating 22-year-old Eloise Milburn since before he burst onto the scene at the World Darts Championship last December.

Milburn, a keen darts player herself, often attends her boyfriend's matches but watched on from home on Thursday.

Littler had been waiting for his first nightly win and it appears Milburn predicted the victory would come.

Reacting after the final, she posted on her Instagram story: "Told you that win was coming! I'm so proud of you."

Littler reposted the post onto his story and responded: "Your support is always there" with a red heart emoji.

Milburn also commented on Littler's Instagram post, writing: "Knew it was coming! Amazing!"

Littler now has 18 points and is five clear of Michael Smith who is outside the play-off places in fifth.

He will face Michael van Gerwen in Manchester next Thursday as he looks to cement his spot in the top four.

Littler claims he practised more ahead of this week's action after losing in his quarter-final for just the second time in Dublin.

He told Sky Sports: "I’m happy to win, it’s my first one. But as people may have seen, I’ve changed my throw to just take that little bit of extra time and then release the next two [darts].

"I’ve put more practice in, and it’s paid off. Sometimes I’m rushing and then obviously I put more practice in tonight and it’s paid off. Just take that little bit more time before I release my next dart.

"I had a good practice game with Rob Cross before we came out tonight.

"We both had over 100 average and I said to Rob ‘cheers for the game’.

"But it got me up for it and I practised well, and I'm glad I brought it on here."

He added: "I can't wait for next week in Manchester.

"I know I've got Michael van Gerwen next week in the first round but obviously Nath will enjoy next week in his home town, and it's close to my home. I can't wait."
