The crowd in Munich got on the wrong side of one darts star in particular

Luke Humphries hailed the 'amazing' support he received from the fans at the German Darts Grand Prix over the weekend - but not every player agreed.

Chris Dobey claimed the crowd was 'very disrespectful' towards him during his match against home favourite Martin Schindler.

Premier League leader Humphries stormed to victory in Munich to further cement his position as the best player in the world.

He beat Michael van Gerwen 8-1 in the final to scoop yet another tournament win following his triumph at the World Championship in January.

Humphries loved the support he received on his way to lifting the trophy, two years after winning his maiden European Tour title at the same event.

The world No 1 claimed it was better than the support he usually gets from fans and feels he has now been accepted.

Humphries said: "Winning the title is amazing, but the love I felt from the crowd meant more to me than winning.

"It's something that I'm not used to but I really appreciate it - it meant a lot.

"When I won the World Championship it was tough. I expect a lot from myself and maybe I did try too hard, but now I feel like I’ve gained an acceptance from the fans.

"I’m not the most exuberant on the stage, but if I can throw darts like that, who cares?"

But it was a different story for Dobey, who lost 6-4 to Schindler in the last eight.

The home fans were understandably supporting Schindler but Dobey felt it went too far.

He wrote on X: "Wow, how they have a nerve to complain when they get booed etc…. in UK.

"Great game to be involved in, but unfortunately crowd very disrespectful."

Fans were not happy with Dobey's post and made it clear in the replies.

One X user wrote: "Chris I support you mate but this is not a good look. It's really not the players' responsibility for their crowds.

"It's the PDC who needs to sort it out. If anything players should be united in this, not divided by nationality. The problem isn't specific to 1 nation."

Another posted: "English have the crowds on their side all the time, deal with it."

A third wrote: "With all due respect pal, all the majors are mainly played in the UK where the big money is earned so it's not as big a deal the euro tours being in Germany."

A fourth put: "Show us where Schindler has complained about a crowd then Chris?"

Like Humphries, Van Gerwen also didn't have a problem with the crowd in Munich.

The three-time world champion said: "I want to say thank you to the crowd, thanks for the organisation - I think it was a good tournament and I'm pleased."
