The Villans are on the hunt for Champions League football

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has discussed his side's vital 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The visitors got off to a bad start when a deflected strike from Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso found the net.

Villa were able to equalise just before the half time interval through defender Pau Torres.

And Ollie Watkins struck in the 61st minute to secure all three points and boost his side's hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Emery has now spoken out after the match.

And the Spaniard has revealed he was left exhausted after seeing Villa come from behind to put their opponents to the sword.

"Three points, it was an amazing match, both teams different ways tactically but really hard, really tough," he said in his post-match press conference.

"They created chances, we created chances. We were efficient and clinical in the attack.

"I enjoyed it, but I lost all my energy!

"Each match is three points, but of course Tottenham were one point ahead of us and they are strong with their fans.

"It is very difficult.

"We are getting something in the way we are building.

"After the work we did on Friday, yesterday, this morning, we were very focused on the match.

"Analysing, preparing and focusing on each match. The players played in the game plan were prepared and they were successful."

Watkins also opened up after his heroics in north London.

And the Villa star praised the way his side performed, though did admit they were fortunate to go into the break level following Torres' goal.

“We didn’t have the best of starts, we were lucky to come in at 1-1,," he told the BBC.

"That goal right before half-time was a massive boost for us and it was crucial really.

“I don’t think there’s been a game where we haven’t created chances. We have a big belief in ourselves.

"We had plenty of opportunities to score and we came away with the three points, which is massive for us.

"The games are coming thick and fast now but when you’re on a good run, like we are, that’s what you want. I think all the lads are looking forward to it.”

In a separate interview with Sky Sports, the striker added: "They are where they are in the league because of how they're playing so a massive three points.

"Our away form has not been as good as we can be. I've got quite a good record here at Spurs so nice to get another goal.

"It's unbelievable, a great feeling and we're playing great football.
