Princess Kate has stuck to a muted wardrobe ever since the death of Katharine, Duchess of Kent.
GB News understands that King Charles instructed members of the Royal Family to wear darker colours in the days and weeks following the Duchess of Kent's death until her funeral takes place.
Today, the Princess of Wales honoured that request in a £1,370 checkered trouser suit from Bella Freud with a dark top.
Earlier this week, during a visit to the Women’s Institute with Prince William to mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, Kate, 43, chose a black, grey and white tartan dress by Alessandra Rich.

During this time, members of the Royal Family will wear clothing that pays appropriate tribute.
Over the weekend, Queen Camilla accompanied King Charles to the annual Braemar Gathering Highland Games near Balmoral.
She surprised onlookers by opting for a blue dress and green beret but observed protocol with a black armband — a discreet symbol of mourning.
The Duchess of Kent died on Thursday, September 4, at the age of 92.
