Queen Mary appears to be taking Princess Kate’s lead in centring the importance of nature in her latest royal engagement.
On Tuesday, the 53-year-old royal was seen immersed in the Scandinavian nation’s natural world as she worked to rebuild habitats for endangered species.
Mary was visiting a World Wildlife Foundation project in the forests around Knudshoved Odde.
The Danish royal palace informed fans on social media: “Today, Her Majesty The Queen participated in a visit as patron of the foundation and was presented with some of the concrete efforts in the nature restoration project.”

The queen also oversaw the efforts to protect the rare ochre-yellow spotted butterfly in the region.
Poor weather meant a planned release of the beautiful bugs had to be postponed. However, Mary was allowed to hold a few of the endangered butterflies in a special moment.
The palace also explained Mary took part in a number of other conservation efforts including viewing similarly rare black scaly toads, helping release bell frogs to a nearby lake, setting up a nesting box for bird, and scattering seeds and beetle larvae.
All throughout the engagement, Mary was pictured fully engaged in the activities and listening to the thoughts of conservationists.

The damp weather did not deter the queen, who wore a navy waterproof jacket, hiking boots and baseball cap to brave the rain.
Her clear commitment to the value of nature and the need to protect it echoes the recent thoughts of Princess Kate.
The new video series Mother Nature, spearheaded by the Princess of Wales, aims to highlight humanity's connection to nature and its capacity to help people "heal and grow in mind, body and spirit."
Earlier this month, she and Prince William released the first of four planned seasonal films today, focusing on Spring.
The Danish queen also listened intently to the conservationists on site.

The series is described as "a celebration of the raw, untamed beauty of the changing seasons across the UK."
Princess Kate narrated the first film in which she shared her personal reflections on nature's healing power.
"Over the past year, nature has been my sanctuary," she revealed.
She added: "Just as nature revives and renews so too can we. Let us reconnect to nature and celebrate a new dawn within our hearts."
