Queen Mary then rushed inside the Grasten Town Hall before returning to continue the royal engagement.

The pain in her leg was reportedly caused by a wasp sting.

King Frederik and Queen Mary arrived in Grasten for their summer residence in the castle.

The Danish royals traditionally spend several weeks at the castle.

King Frederik’s grandfather, Frederik IX, received the castle as a wedding present when he married Ingrid of Sweden.

Queen Mary and King Frederik were joined by their children Princess Isabella, 18, and Prince Vincent, 14, during the engagement.

The Danish royals were formally received by Sonderborg City Council outside the historic town hall, where the King addressed the gathering.

The King and Queen of Denmark have not been seen publicly since early July, with Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Christian stepping in as regents.

During his address, King Frederik revealed that the couple's eldest son, 19-year-old Crown Prince Christian, would arrive at the palace at a later date.

Princess Josephine, Vincent's twin sister, will also later join the family.

The Queen received numerous floral tributes from well-wishers, appearing sophisticated in a patterned midi-length frock paired with a short jacket and beige heeled sandals.

The estate has served as the monarchy's seasonal retreat since 1935, when the property was presented to the then heir apparent and his consort, who subsequently ascended to the throne.

The current structure originates from the 1700s, maintaining its significance as a cherished royal residence through successive generations.
