Adelaide Cottage, the current home of Prince William and Princess Kate and their children, is said to represent some “unhappy memories” for the family.
The revelation comes as the Waleses are preparing to move to their “forever home” with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Kate and William first moved into Adelaide Cottage, a short distance from Windsor Castle, in August 2022.

The following years would prove to be challenging ones for the family, with Queen Elizabeth II dying at Balmoral just weeks after they settled in the property.

Adelaide Cottage would also become the place of convalescence for Princess Kate during her cancer battle in 2024.
King Charles’s own ongoing treatment for cancer cast a shadow over royal affairs.
A source close to the Waleses claimed that, while the family have settled in Windsor as “their home,” their current abode carries too much baggage.
“Over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage, there have been some really difficult times,” the insider explained.

Moving home now offers the family "an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind."
“This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their forever home,” the source told The Sun.
The family's "forever home" is expected to be Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom property within Windsor Great Park.
The eight-bedroom Grade II-listed mansion can be found a short distance from Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Great Park.

Forest Lodge was treated to a lavish £1.5million restoration in 2001 and was once available to rent at £15,000 per month.
The palatial property is now valued at approximately £16million.
Estimated to be around 328 years old, the Georgian lodge retains many of its original features, including ornate plaster cornices and marble fireplaces.
Venetian windows and a half-barrel vaulted hallway ceiling are among other period features of the Waleses' new home.

Evidently, the Price and Princess are still working on the property as a planning application lodged in June revealed that both internal and external renovations are already underway.
Despite the dramatically increased scale of Forest Lodge compared to the humble Adelaide Cottage, the Waleses will maintain their preference for having no live-in staff.
This would be a continuation of their desire for a household that feels more like a family home than a traditional Palace.
A Kensington Palace spokesman told GB News: “The Wales family will move house later this year,” ushering in a new, hopeful chapter for William, Kate, and their three young children.
