The Queen serves as patron of Children's Hospice South West

Queen Camilla visited Little Bridge House children's hospice in Barnstaple yesterday to commemorate the facility's 30th anniversary.

The Queen toured the hospice and met with staff members, volunteers and families who benefit from its services.

The visit marked Her Majesty's first time at the hospice since the death of co-founder Eddie Farwell earlier this year.

During her tour, the Queen encountered employees spanning three decades of the hospice's operation, from CHSW's very first staff member to those recently hired.

Queen Camilla visited Little Bridge House children's hospice in Barnstaple yesterday to commemorate the facility's 30th anniversary.

Her Majesty explored various areas of the facility, spending time with families in the games room and viewing the accommodation provided for those staying at the hospice.

In Doves Chapel within the hospice, the Queen met with a family currently receiving support from CHSW.

The family shared their experiences of the care they have received, including the benefits of music therapy sessions.

The visit continued in the hospice gardens, where Her Majesty attended a reception with staff members and families who have received support throughout the years. Chief Executive Phil Morris paid tribute to the legacy of Eddie and Jill Farwell during the gathering.

The Queen and Lizzy Farwell, daughter of Eddie and Jill, unveiled a commemorative photograph of Eddie with his family.

The image will be displayed in all three CHSW hospices as a lasting tribute to the co-founder's contribution.

Little Bridge House was the first of three hospices established by Eddie and Jill Farwell, who founded Children's Hospice South West after their two eldest children were diagnosed with a rare degenerative genetic disorder.

Following support from an Oxford hospice, the couple launched a fundraising appeal that led to Little Bridge House opening in 1995.

The Barnstaple facility offers specialised amenities for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.

These include a play room for creative activities, a multi-sensory room featuring lights, sounds and textures for relaxation, a soft play area and a hydrotherapy pool to ease stiff joints and muscles.

Growing demand for services resulted in two additional hospices: Charlton Farm near Bristol opened in 2007, followed by Little Harbour in 2011 to serve families in Cornwall and Plymouth.
