The princess's mother and uncle have both been diagnosed with cancer in recent months

Princess Eugenie stepped out with Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend, which was her first sighting since the King's cancer diagnosis was announced.

The Princess of York's mother, Sarah Ferguson, and her uncle, King Charles, have both recently been diagnosed with cancer.

But Eugenie, 33, appeared in good spirits as she joined her close friend Cressida Bonas for a pub trip on Thursday.

Princess Eugenie was the person who introduced her cousin Prince Harry to Bonas, and they dated between 2012 and 2014.

The princess and the actress have remained close despite the break-up.

Eugenie donned a Sandro tartan coat for the occasion, which she first wore in 2021. She paired this with a Chanel pearl-studded bag and Adidas trainers.

Princess Eugenie and Bonas shared a hug outside the Walmer Castle pub as they made their way home around 10pm.

Bonas, 34, has a son named Wilbur with her husband Harry Wentworth-Stanley, a property investor.

They appeared deep in conversation after enjoying a drink together for a couple of hours.

Eugenie shares sons August and Ernest with her husband Jack Brooksbank. August was born on February 9, 2021, so is celebrating his third birthday today.

Thursday was the first time Eugenie had been seen in public since Buckingham Palace announced King Charles was diagnosed with cancer.

The princess and her sister Princess Beatrice had already experienced their mother being diagnosed with a form of skin cancer in December, her second cancer diagnosis in a year.

At the time of her diagnosis, the Duchess of York posted on Instagram: "I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, my second cancer diagnosis within a year after I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

"It was thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist that the melanoma was detected when it was.

"Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock but I'm in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.

"I believe my experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, colour and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma and urge anyone who is reading this to be diligent."
