Princess Eugenie is “cautious” to step up for the Royal Family “as times become more desperate,” according to a royal commentator.

Eugenie supported the Prince of Wales as he hosted a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday afternoon.

Although Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice are not working royals, they often accompany the Royal Family at public engagements.

However, former royal butler Grant Harrold says Eugenie is reluctant to take on a more formal role as she has her own career and passions.

Harrold said: “Princess Eugenie is probably cautious to step up to Royal duties because it does take up your whole life. I've seen the schedules and you can't switch it on and off.

“Eugenie is very keen to have her own career and that's something she is very passionate about - so yes, she probably is reluctant to take on Royal duties.”

Princess Eugenie works with a number of charities including Children in Crisis and Anti-Slavery International.

She also works as the director of a London art gallery called Hauser & Wirth in London.

Harrold continued: “She's currently a non-working Royal but as times become more desperate, it's very likely we will see her move from that to become a working senior member of the family.

"Let's remember the late Queen became the Queen and that shouldn't have happened, so you never know.”

Harrold told Fruity Slots: “Eugenie is very competent, so I’ve no doubt that if she does step up, she will do so very successfully.”

Although the royal may not take on official royal roles, she and her sister are set to “appear at other events over the summer,” according to royal commentator Emily Nash.

Writing in Hello!, Nash said: “Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and their cousins were at the garden party to support the Prince of Wales because the princess is continuing her recovery.

"But they are not taking on official roles.

"They've attended royal engagements in the past, sometimes 'in attendance' with the late Queen, for example.

"So they might appear at other events over the summer as members of the King's family."
