The Price of Wales took questions about his daughter's hobbies during a visit

Prince William has revealed his daughter Princess Charlotte is "getting there" with football compared to her brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis, in a candid chat.

The Prince of Wales made the comment during his visit to the Lionesses, England's woman's football team, at St George's Park.

Whilst joining schoolgirls on the indoor pitch, William was asked if his 10-year-old daughter plays football.

He revealed that Charlotte was "not quite as into the football as the boys".

However, he tempered with the remark by optimistically adding she was: "Getting there."

Explaining Charlotte's apparent reticence compared to her brothers, William explained: "It's again how much they play at school because you've got to create that environment."

"If their friends don't play then they're like, 'well, I'm not going to'... it's collective and down to the school," he said.

Prince George and Prince Louis are known to be passionate football fans.

George has regularly been seen alongside his father at matches for their beloved Birmingham-based club Aston Villa.

The pair were together to witness Villa's heroic Champions League campaign last season, eventually losing out to Paris Saint-Germain in Europe's top flight.

Prince Louis is also a fan of the beautiful game, with William revealing his seven-year-old son supports multiple clubs.

"My youngest at the moment says he supports five different football teams,” the Prince of Wales revealed while speaking in Edinburgh earlier this year.

William's visit to England's national football centre came as he delivered an inspiring good luck message to the women's squad ahead of their Euro 2025 campaign in Switzerland.

As patron of the Football Association, William met with Head Coach Sarina Wiegman and participated in several activities with the team before their title defence begins on Saturday.

During his speech to the team, William praised their exceptional unity, stating: "I have been saying to a few of you, the men's team can definitely learn off your camaraderie and your team environment.

"You are brilliant together. You create a very unique unit… so hold on to that, treasure that, build on it because it's one of your greatest assets.

The future king emphasised how the squad should approach the tournament, telling them: "I know how you are going to play – you are going to play with freedom, you are going to play with camaraderie and teamwork."

He acknowledged the pressure on the team whilst encouraging them to embrace their success.

The Prince highlighted the remarkable impact the Lionesses have had on grassroots football, noting a "56 per cent rise in girls' participation since 2020."

William witnessed a Made for This Game session featuring junior girls' football teams who had been inspired by the Lionesses' 2022 triumph.

He told the squad: "You are the reason they have got into football. They are hugely inspired by what you have done – what you have created."

The Prince emphasised the transformative effect on women's football, stating: "The fact is that 10 years ago, women's football was barely seen in the light it is today, and those opportunities have changed because of what you've done."

William's visit included hands-on activities, as he helped print names on official England shirts before personally presenting jerseys to all 23 squad members.

The 42-year-old football enthusiast was given team shirts to pass on to his children, Princess Charlotte, Prince George and Prince Louis.

He concluded his visit with a group photo and encouraging words to the team, particularly addressing the seven players starting their first major tournament.

"I know there's a huge expectation on you, that is good and that's also going to be in the back of your mind as you go out there," he told them.

The Lionesses flew to Switzerland immediately after his visit.
