The coronavirus pandemic forced changes to Beatrice's original plan

Princess Anne and Princess Beatrice have both been honoured in a new memorial for Queen Elizabeth II.

Princess Beatrice, 36, famously paid tribute to her late grandmother during her pandemic wedding in July 2020 by wearing the Queen Mary Fringe Tiara.

This was the same dazzling headpiece that Queen Elizabeth II wore for her 1947 nuptials.

The Princess of York married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a private ceremony after the coronavirus pandemic forced changes to their original plans.

Beatrice also wore a Norman Hartnell gown previously worn by Her Late Majesty.

The historic tiara features 47 diamond bars divided by metal spikes.

Princess Anne additionally chose this piece for her 1973 wedding to her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, continuing the royal tradition.

Now, a national memorial to Elizabeth II, designed by Lord Foster, features a bridge inspired by the Queen Mary Fringe diamond tiara.

The renowned architect previously accused the King of using his "privileged position" to intervene in a planning process.

However, Lord Foster beat strong competition with his "ambitious and thoughtful masterplan" for St James's Park.

The design honours the nation's longest-reigning monarch with a bridge reminiscent of the tiara that held great sentimental value for the Queen.

The headpiece serves as the memorial's central inspiration, connecting the Queen's wedding day to her lasting legacy.

The memorial plans include a sculpture depicting the late Queen on horseback, alongside interactive storytelling elements featuring the Queen's voice and a large gold "wind sculpture".

A statue showing the "inseparable" Queen and Prince Philip side by side will be positioned near Birdcage Walk, at the newly named Prince Philip Gate.

The Cabinet Office announced on Tuesday that Foster + Partners had won the competition to design the memorial.

The feedback was considered by the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, led by Lord Janvrin, the late Queen’s former private secretary.

Lord Foster said it was an honour to be awarded the project, adding that the bridge was symbolic of the Queen as a “unifying force”.

“Her Majesty loved history and tradition, so this is reflected in the inspiration of the original design of St James’s Park by Sir John Nash,” he said.

“Some of his principles have survived, whilst others have been lost and will be restored, creating a family of gardens joined by gently meandering paths.”
