A jewellery expert spoke exclusively to GB News about the Princess of Wales's decision

Prince William’s affectionate description of his youngest son as "a very good boy" was echoed by Princess Kate on Thursday through a carefully chosen piece of jewellery.

During visits to Sudbury Silk Mills in Suffolk and a school in Kent, the Princess of Wales wore a Gold Fixed Alphabet Necklace by Daniella Draper, a design she first wore in 2021.

The £355 necklace carries three gold letters – G, C and L – for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Speaking earlier in the week about Louis, William said: "He's a character, but he's a very good boy. He likes to wind his brother and sister up."

He added: "When George is behind closed doors, it's completely different. George just knows how to behave." The Prince of Wales also noted there is a "five-year difference" between his sons.

Jewellery expert Nilesh Rakholia, founder of Abelini, told GB News that Kate’s choice underlines those sentiments.

"What’s so interesting about Kate choosing a Gold Fixed Alphabet Necklace for this outing is that it signals something quietly personal, rather than grand theatrical display," he said.

"The piece is especially meaningful: it allows for personalisation – initials, a name, or a word – and that inherently makes it a messaging device.

"When someone in her role selects something like this, it’s rarely random. It’s about carrying the people and values closest to her."

Mr Rakholia pointed to the couple’s consistent focus on family. "Kate and William have always been seen to adore their children – from William praising Prince Louis earlier this week as ‘a very good boy’ to Kate making her initial necklace a wardrobe staple.

"By wearing this piece more often, Kate underlines the same message William voiced: that their family bond is central to everything. It’s a subtle yet powerful way of letting her jewellery speak for her – grounding royal duty in love and parenthood."

He added that the necklace reflects a wider shift in modern royal jewellery: "These kinds of personalised designs also resonate on a wider cultural level.

"They’re part of a shift we’re seeing in modern royal jewellery moments – pieces that are adaptable, wearable, and above all meaningful. Jewellery is no longer just an ornament; it’s biography and connection, and Kate’s necklace captures that beautifully."

Kate paired the necklace with a grey Prince of Wales–checked suit, a deliberate nod to her husband’s title, as she toured the 300-year-old Sudbury Silk Mills to meet designers and production staff and learn about the British textiles industry.

Later, she travelled to Kent to meet students and teachers working on mental health and wellbeing projects.

The Gold Fixed Alphabet Necklace, handmade in the UK, allows wearers to select letters with personal significance.

For Kate, it signalled that even on official engagements, George, Charlotte and Louis remain close to her heart – and, as William’s remarks earlier in the week showed, their children’s personalities and close bonds remain central to the couple’s public and private life.
