Prince William has shared a touching birthday message to Sir David Attenborough as the beloved broadcaster turns 99 today.

The Prince of Wales spent time with Sir David on Tuesday at the Royal Festival Hall, where they watched Attenborough's new film 'Ocean with David Attenborough'.

To mark the occasion, William shared two images on social media - a new photograph of the pair from their Tuesday meeting and a previously seen family picture with Sir David at Kensington Palace from 2020.

In his birthday message, William wrote: "As he turns 99 today, in his new film, Sir David has once again reminded us of the need to protect natural habitats - this time those beneath the ocean."

The Prince shared these words alongside the images.

William continued: "He has dedicated his life to ensuring we understand the realities of what mankind is doing to the planet.

"However hard hitting his message is, Sir David always leaves us with a sense of hope and optimism that all is not lost and this film is no different."

"We must act together, with urgency, to restore our oceans."

"Happy Birthday, David. W."

Earlier this week, Princess Eugenie leant her support to a cause supported to Sir David Attenborough.

The 35-year-old royal took to social media to share her backing of the new film Ocean, which the King and Prince of Wales watched separately at different screenings.

The film, which is set to debut in cinemas before streaming on Disney+, focuses on sharing “the story of how we can, and must, restore the glory of Earth’s vast, interconnected waters”.

Joining her fellow royals, Eugenie took to her Instagram account to promote the Attenborough movie with multiple posts to her story.
