Prince William is set to rely on Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie as "Prince Harry left a large gap", royal sources have claimed.

William and Harry's contrasting public appearances have laid bare the vastly different paths the brothers have taken since the Duke of Sussex departed from royal duties in 2020.

Whilst the Prince of Wales visited Wattisham Air Base in Suffolk on royal duties earlier this month, his younger brother was featured in a viral video shared by his wife, Meghan Markle.

The clip, posted to mark their daughter Lilibet's fourth birthday, showed the couple twerking in a hospital room to "Baby Mama" by Starrkeisha whilst awaiting her birth. The juxtaposition could not have been more pronounced.

"Harry and Meghan are highlighting a life of fun and lightness while William's is dominated by duty and public service," a royal insider told Us Weekly. "They are worlds apart."

The source revealed that William feels the practical impact of his brother's absence acutely.

"Harry left a large gap in William's world, not just personally but practically," the insider explained.

"The whole idea was for Harry to work hand-in-hand with William and to divide and conquer during William's monarchy."

The source added: "He feels deserted by his brother, not that he would ever say that out loud."

In response to Harry's absence, William reportedly plans to rely more heavily on his cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, for support in his future reign.

William, who holds the title of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, arrived at the Suffolk base in a reconnaissance Wildcat helicopter earlier this month.

The former search and rescue pilot presented a King's Commendation for Valuable Service award and toured the facilities whilst observing training drills.

Dressed in military fatigues and a beret, the 42-year-old appeared comfortable in the military environment where he once flew Apache helicopters during his own army service.

His father, King Charles, bestowed the Colonel-in-Chief title upon him in May of the previous year, cementing William's ongoing connection to the armed forces as he prepares for his future role as monarch.

Had Harry remained a working royal, it likely would have been him at Wattisham Air Base. The Duke flew Apache helicopters there during his time in the British army.

Meghan's Instagram post featured the throwback footage with the caption: "When spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work there was only one thing left to do."

The video captured the couple dancing together in a hospital room during the final stages of Meghan's pregnancy.

Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, have established their life in America with their two children, including six-year-old son Archie.

Their public persona now centres on personal moments and family celebrations, a stark departure from the formal royal engagements that once defined Harry's public life.
