Prince William vowed to continue King Charles's legacy during a royal engagement on Thursday.

The Prince of Wales has unveiled an ambitious conservation initiative aimed at safeguarding Dartmoor's future over the next two decades, marking the most extensive project of this nature across Britain.

He visited Tor Royal Bog near Yelverton, Devon, on Thursday, where he announced the Dartmoor Landscape Vision despite challenging weather conditions.

The initiative represents a collaborative effort between the Prince's Duchy of Cornwall and the Central Dartmoor Landscape Recovery project, establishing a comprehensive strategy for the moorland's protection.

William stated during the visit: "I'm keen to continue my father's work as well.

"For me it's about the impact, I want to see stuff actually happen.

"We've done the talking now, we've put the vision together, the design, now it's about the activation."

William cautioned that the area's intricate natural systems face significant threats, emphasising the urgent need for intervention to preserve this distinctive landscape.

During his visit to the restored peatland area, the Prince engaged with Duchy tenant farmers David and Justine Colton, alongside representatives from the South West Peatland Partnership and Tony Juniper, Natural England's chair.

The partnership's approach focuses on transforming land management practices whilst maintaining agricultural activities in the region.

Gesturing towards a section of rehabilitated peatland, he remarked: "Even though this is a small bit, we need to get more and more of this going on all around Dartmoor to bring it back to its former glory, while still keeping the farming and everything else going."

In his foreword to the Landscape Vision, William wrote: "Dartmoor is a magnificent and complex ecosystem the balance between nature and people has evolved for thousands of years to shape the landscape we recognise today."

He continued: "To keep Dartmoor special, we must respond to the twin challenges of global warming and the requirement to restore nature, while ensuring the communities on Dartmoor can thrive."

The Prince described the vision as "bold and ambitious and something that I hope, by working together, can be delivered for not just the current generation but for generations to come."
