A potential 'summit' about the direction of the Royal Family could take place during the annual holiday in Scotland

Members of the Royal Family including Prince William, the King and the Queen will likely discuss recent events and the future of the monarchy while on holiday in Balmoral, a royal expert has claimed.

A potential "summit" could take place during the annual holiday to Scotland, where King Charles might have important conversations about the future direction of the Royal Family.

According to former Royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, it would be "slightly odd" if the family did not talk about current affairs while altogether.

She added that formal conversations were commonly carried out at Balmoral during the 1990s.

"I have no information that there is going to be a royal summit at Balmoral. But it would be slightly odd if the family were all together for once and didn't mull over what has happened and how they proceed in the future," she told OK!

"Back in the 90s, there was a more formal setup when senior royals discussed strategy in a forum known as The Way Ahead Group.

"Its aim was the ensure that the monarchy stayed relevant to the modern age."

It comes following claims that Prince William has set out to "keep the monarchy relevant".

Bond added: "There may be some similar discussions at Balmoral, William is certainly preoccupied with keeping the monarchy relevant.

"But essentially this is a holiday for the royals, a time to stop worrying about everything and like other families on holiday just breathe in the fresh air, relax and enjoy one another's company."

King Charles and Queen Camilla have already travelled to Scotland for the summer getaway.

Princess Anne has also made the journey to the Scottish Highlands.

Kate is thought to be preparing a trip to the Scottish Highlands where she will join her husband Prince William and their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and six-year-old Prince Louis.

The Princess's public appearances this year have been few and far between having announced her cancer diagnosis in March.

The trip to the royal residence in Balmoral this summer will be the longest she has travelled since being diagnosed with cancer.
