Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could deploy the tactic of an unofficial split if their marriage deteriorated, according to a relationship expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married in 2018 and have two children together, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2.

The couple has built a lucrative brand together and signed a multi-million-pound deal with Netflix following their decision to step down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020.

There is huge interest in the couple's marriage and their self-titled documentary Harry & Meghan shattered multiple streaming records on Netflix when it was released in December 2022.

Relationship expert Louella Alderson said: "Harry and Meghan make a lucrative team, and their joint ventures have the potential to continue bringing in substantial income for their family.

"While they have their individual endeavours, their partnership has proven to be beneficial for both of them professionally too.

"If they were to split, it could potentially impact their careers, especially as a couple who have brands built on their relationship."

Anderson claimed that the couple could choose to unofficially split rather than announce a divorce or separation publicly if they ever did break up.

She added that this tactic has been used by other high-profile celebrity couples including Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.

Anderson said: "It's common for celebrities to maintain a united front in the public eye, as we have seen recently with Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith and Meryl Streep and Don Gummer.

"They may choose to present themselves as a strong and happy couple, even if they've actually been living separate lives for years.

"This is typically to avoid the inevitable media attention and speculation and to protect their image and brand."

Another relationship expert, Kate Mansfield said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a healthy relationship and are nowhere near contemplating an unofficial split.

Mansfield told the Mirror: "I personally don’t see Harry and Meghan being anywhere close to an ‘unofficial’ split.

"It could be that they are smart, and see the value in making sure that they have a healthy relationship, which includes space and independence, as well as family time."
