Prince Edward will undertake a seven-day visit to Canada next week, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The Duke of Edinburgh, 61, will visit the Commonwealth country from 25 June to 2 July 2025, with engagements spanning Prince Edward Island, Toronto and Ottawa.

The royal trip comes just months after King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the North American nation where the monarch made a landmark speech at the opening of parliament.

His Royal Highness, who has served as Colonel-in-Chief of The Prince Edward Island Regiment since 2005, will attend celebrations marking the regiment's 150th anniversary.

The commemorations will include a Freedom of the City parade.

Edward’s visit will encompass military engagements, meetings with First Nations communities, youth organisations and public sector services.

The duke will also participate in Canada Day celebrations in the nation's capital on 1 July.

During his time on Prince Edward Island, the Duke will visit the Abegweit First Nation and participate in an education forum with representatives from all four Atlantic provinces.

He will also meet with youth organisations on the island.

The Toronto portion of the visit will see His Royal Highness visit the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, where he also serves as Colonel-in-Chief, along with the naval reserve unit HMCS York and CFB Trenton air base.

The duke will yet again meet community leaders and emerging youth leaders whilst recognising the service of public sector organisations, including the Toronto Police Service's Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force.

He will attend a service at Christ Church, His Majesty's Chapel Royal of the Mohawk, the first Protestant church in Upper Canada and Ontario's oldest surviving church.

In Ottawa on July 1, the father-of-two will attend Canada Day celebrations and visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in his capacity as Honorary Deputy Commissioner.

His Royal Highness will also celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, which has been operating in Canada since 1963. The programme equips young people across the country to reach their full potential.

Prince Edward last visited Canada in April 2023, when he travelled to Toronto and Vancouver.

The Duke of Edinburgh's visit comes just weeks after Edward represented the Royal Family at the inaugural mass of Pope Leo.

During the King's recent trip to Canada, Charles became only the second royal, as head of state in Canada, to perform the prestigious task after his late mother Queen Elizabeth II did so in 1957 and 1977.

Charles’s address, which had been crafted by the Canadian Government with his own personal remarks added, contained several references to the heightened tension at the time between Ottawa and Washington.

While there, the King and Queen met with Lieutenant Governors from all 10 Canadian provinces, oversaw Camilla being added to the privy council and planted a tree in the grounds of Rideau Hall, near the site of a sugar maple they planted during their previous tour of Canada in 2017.

The royal couple issued a statement upon their departure: “As my wife and I leave Canada, we wanted to send our most heartfelt thanks to all those who turned out to offer their support on this, my first visit as sovereign," the King and Queen said.

"It was the warmest of welcomes - and the fondest of returns to a land and a people we love," they added, concluding with: "Until the next time, au revoir, Canada, et avec tous nos remerciements."
