The Princess of Wales made her first visit to Cornwall since becoming Duchess of the region

Meghan Markle's claim that Kate, Princess of Wales was not a hugger has been shattered this week.

The Duchess of Sussex said that she was "a hugger" and that her behaviour was noticeably different to Kate's when the two met for the first time.

Meghan said: "Even when Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot.

"Like I was a hugger, I've always been a hugger.

"I didn't realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.

"I guess I started to understand really quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside."

However, the swipe at Kate's formality looks to be less and less accurate as the Princess of Wales undertakes more Royal Family engagements.

On Thursday, Kate was reunited with her school history teacher in a moment that left the royal visibly shocked.

The Princess of Wales's immediate reaction was to warmly hug Jim Embury in a touching reunion.

Kate has been seen hugging several other members of the public during her royal engagements including Captain Preet Chandi this week.

The royal has recently boosted her PR team with a couple of senior appointments and a source told the Telegraph that these moves are part of the Princesses' plan to redefine herself.

The royal insider said: “You can often see the ambitions of individual members of the Royal family by the hires that they make.

“When Prince William hired Simon Case [now the Cabinet Secretary] to be his private secretary in 2018 that showed a new maturity of outlook in his ambitions, as Case was a more heavyweight appointment than what had gone before.

“What the Princess of Wales is doing is a very clear sign that she is redefining herself now that she has this new role.

The role of heir, or wife of the heir, brings opportunities and also responsibilities as you represent the monarchy not only around the country but also around the world.

"She has a greater platform now, so she needs the right team to deliver for her.”

The Princess of Wales, recently launched 'Shaping Us' a culmination of her life's work on research on the impact of early childhood.
