As Ever's product range sold out 45 minutes after its launch in April

Meghan Markle has admitted she was reduced to tears during particularly stressful moments of the launch of her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

The Duchess of Sussex opened up about the “behind the scenes” drama of the company’s troubled launch on the final episode of her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.

Meghan was speaking with Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange, about combining the worlds of motherhood and business.

As Ever, which launched earlier in early April, came under fire after much of the company’s offerings sold out almost immediately after becoming available.

Many orders of the products, which included £10.80 raspberry jam, honey and herbal teas, were left unfulfilled orders with still no sign of a return.

“As ever, it was great. We planned for a year, and then everything sells out in 45 minutes - which yes, amazing. Great news,” she began.

However, that was only part of the story, as Meghan explained: "People see all the flashy stuff and they see the product.”

But that end game… those behind the scenes moments... how many tears I've shed," she admitted.

The stress of the launch was only intensified by the hard question of where to go next.

Meghan recalled asking her team: “Are we going to replenish and sell out again in an hour? Or is that annoying as a customer?”

The duchess explained that she later calmed nerves with the meditation: "Just pause. That happened. Let's wait until we are completely stable and we have everything we need.”

This echoes her previous comments after the launch that she would take time to: “Step back, gather data from the launch, and figure out exactly what As Ever could be.”

Meghan later said she is not planning to announce new products until the first quarter of 2026.

However, it seems like As Ever may try and avoid similar forced exclusivity of her products with high demand launches.

“That scarcity mentality at the beginning might be a hook for people, not dissimilar a sneaker drop. But when you're talking about products… I don't want you to eat that jam once every six months. I want it that to be on your shelf all the time,” she explained to Knowles.

Even with the difficulties of the launch, Meghan revealed she is already dreaming about a family future in business.

“I wonder if one day I'll be in business with Lili and we'll be building something,” Meghan said of her young daughter she shares with Prince Harry.

“Yeah, that’s the best,” responded Knowles.

The Duchess’ dream may be some time away, as Lilibet will celebrate only her 4th birthday this week.

Nevertheless, Knowles, who is currently working with her daughter Beyonce on a har product brand, offered advice to Meghan.

“There are difficulties,” the fashion mogul warned as she spoke of regular “disagreements” in such close relationships in the business world.

However, the 71-year-old revealed she was always “the one to cave”.

“If my kids are mad at me, I can't take it. I'll cave. If we have a disagreement, it's her business, so she gets the win,” Knowles said.
