A spokesperson for the couple said no decision had been made on whether to attend the ceremony

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received their invitation to the King's Coronation - but the couple may not attend the major ceremony.

A spokesperson for the couple have confirmed that an email has been sent on behalf of His Majesty asking the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to attend the constitutional moment in May.

The offer from Buckingham Palace comes despite repeated public attacks by Harry and Meghan on the Royal Family.

Speculation had been rife that the King may have refused to invite his youngest son and wife following a series of bombshell disclosures in media interviews and Harry's autobiography.

Confirming the news, a spokesperson for the Sussexes said: "I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty's office regarding the coronation.

"An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time."

The King's Coronation takes place on May 6, which clashes with the birthday of the Sussexes' son.

Archie will turn four on the same day as the King's confirmation as monarch.

An invitation to Harry and Meghan comes just days after it emerged that the couple have been told to leave their UK residence of Frogmore Cottage.

News was made public earlier this week that Buckingham Palace asked the pair to clear out their things just 24 hours after Harry's memoirs, Spare, were published in January.

They have been given until the Coronation to move out of the house in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

In the book the Duke took a series of swipes at the Royal Family, accusing Prince William of assaulting, the King joking about whether he was his biological father, and Camilla of leaking stories about him to the media.

Last night in a live-streamed interview with trauma expert Gabor Maté, the Prince also appeared to take another swipe at his father, claiming that Charles never hugged him as a child.

He added: "It leaves me in the position of a father having two children trying to smother them with love.

"I feel a huge responsibility not to pass on any trauma or negative experiences that I've had as a kid or as a man growing up.

"There are times when I catch myself when I should be smothering them with that love but I might not be."
