Meghan Markle is "pushing her podcast towards women" following the duchess's bitter fallout with Spotify, a royal historian has claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex announced a new podcast deal with Lemonada Media earlier this year following Meghan and Harry’s split with Spotify.

Meghan and Harry did have a £15million deal with Spotify but it collapsed after one series.

The duchess will be in the company of fellow American actresses, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sarah Silverman who also have their own podcasts with the American network.

There is no word on who Meghan will speak with for her new series, but in the past, she has hosted celebrities like Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling and Pamela Adlon.

Royal historian Marlene Koenig spoke exclusively to GB News to explain what Meghan's new streaming platform will look like.

She said: "From what I read, Lemonada is a women-owned, women-supported podcast company.

"It's not Spotify, but unlike Spotify, it will be able to relaunch her Archewell podcasts on all these other platforms which I'm assuming will be Apple, Amazon etc.

"The market is pushing it toward women. And that has been the Duchess of Sussex’s primary thing.

"Her primary thing is women and they seem to be successful.

"They're not Spotify, but if you're able to get your podcast into more markets, that's a good thing."

Lemonada’s CEO and co-founder Jessica Cordova Kramer mentioned that "authenticity and passion" are key when celebrities want to be podcasters.

Meghan and Harry’s deal with Spotify was axed prematurely after one season of Meghan’s podcast ‘Archetypes’ and one holiday special.

The duchess announced earlier this year: "Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast is well in the works."

As well as the new podcast, Meghan has launched a lifestyle brand titled America Riviera Orchard with an accompanying Instagram account.

She is also producing two new Netflix shows alongside her husband Prince Harry.
