Lilibet and Archie's birthday snubs from King Charles are a reflection of his 'strained relationship' with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, according to a royal commentator.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's daughter turned two on June 4 but did not receive any public tributes from senior members of the monarchy to mark the occasion.

Lilibet's snub followed no members of the Royal Family publicly wishing her brother Archie happy birthday on May 6.

RS Locke stated that the birthdays were acknowledged under Queen Elizabeth II due to the cordial relationship the late monarch had with Meghan and Harry.

The royal commentator said: "Last year’s birthday acknowledgement was at the late Queen’s behest and an indication of the cordial relationship she had with Prince Harry, Meghan, and their children."

Locke told the Independent: "King Charles’s decision not to publicly acknowledge his granddaughter’s birthday, nor Prince Archie’s last month, is a reflection of their strained relationship and likely an indication of the social media practices going forward."

Prince Archie's birthday was on the same day as King Charles's Coronation.

But the King reportedly held a toast for the young prince on May 6 following the historic ceremony.

Prince Harry rushed back from the landmark event at Westminster Abbey to the US in order to spend the evening with his son.

Whilst senior members of the Royal Family headed to Buckingham Palace to watch the flypast, the Duke of Sussex darted to Heathrow Airport to catch his flight home.

It comes as the Duke of Sussex did not see any senior members of the Royal Family during his trip to the UK this week.

Prince Harry was in London to testify as part of his phone hacking case against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).
