The US President and First Lady will make a high-profile visit

Donald Trump is expected to visit Windsor Castle in September to meet with King Charles and the Royal Family, as the UK government seeks to strengthen transatlantic ties.

The US President and First Lady will make the high-profile visit following discussions between Sir Keir Starmer and Trump.

The trip comes as British officials are negotiating to remove the 10 per cent tariffs Trump placed on all trading partners earlier this month.

Sources have indicated that while no dates have been finalised, Trump has signalled his approval for the Windsor Castle venue.

The visit forms part of the UK's diplomatic efforts amid ongoing trade tensions with America.

Windsor Castle was chosen over the previously considered Scottish locations of Balmoral and Dumfries House.

In February, the King had extended a personal invitation for the Trumps to stay at one of his Scottish homes.

The castle holds special significance for Trump, who treasures memories of his 2018 visit with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

During that trip, he enjoyed tea and inspected the guard alongside Her Majesty.

The UK Government had presented multiple options to the White House, with proposals for summer visits involving the Royal Family suggested and declined.

Trump reportedly preferred Windsor's grander setting for the official photographs.

The King, as head of state, will lead Britain's charm offensive during the visit.

He and the Queen have previously entertained the Trumps in the UK, and the two men maintain regular contact via letter.

Prince William is likely to be involved in hosting duties at Windsor Castle.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children live within walking distance at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate.

The Royal Family's involvement underscores the diplomatic importance of the visit as the UK seeks to improve relations with the United States.

The negotiations come as the Government seeks an enhanced trade deal with America.

Trump's fondness for the Royal Family is well documented, with the President keeping a photograph album of his previous state visit. He has described King Charles as a "beautiful man".

During a White House photocall with Sir Keir in February, Trump publicly accepted the King's invitation.

"The answer is yes. We look forward to being there and honouring the King, honouring the country," he stated.

The President has also been offered a full state visit to the UK. The details of this more formal visit will be discussed during his time in Britain.
