The Royal Family will be heading to Balmoral this summer
King Charles is set to hold crunch talks for the decade ahead without Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to sources.
The Royal Family will gather at Balmoral Castle in August for their traditional summer holiday.
However, sources claim the holiday will also serve as a summit for the planning of the monarchy's next decade.
Hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, this meeting comes at a time of significant transition for the Royal Family amid a year of great difficulty.
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles as senior royals, and have subsequently engaged in public rifts with their British in-laws.
The Royal Family has also faced three major health challenges this year, with two senior figures announcing cancer diagnoses and Princess Anne suffering a head injury from a horse kick.
King Charles, 75, has long favoured the concept of a slimmed-down monarchy.
However, the negative impacts of a slimmer Royal Family have been noticed by many commentators over recent months.
Sources claimed to The Express that Charles and Camilla will be holding crunch talks at Balmoral to discuss the future of the Royal Family, following seven months of slight chaos.
Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, are set to travel to Balmoral this summer.
Their presence as a family will emphasise the line of succession and the next generation of royals.
The Prince and Princess of Wales also represent continuity and stability, two things the monarchy seeks to project.
ROYAL LATEST:
As the future King, Prince William will likely be a central figure in discussions about the monarchy's direction.
Princess Kate, 42, has attended two major events this year - Trooping the Colour and the Wimbledon Men's Singles final.
In June, she announced that her chemotherapy would be continuing for a few more months and that she was "not out of the woods yet".
The Princess of Wales could begin a phased return to official duties in September following the summer holidays, but Kensington Palace has not yet confirmed a recovery timeline.
