The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby placed the crown on his head in a historic moment for the nation.
Welby then proclaiming: "God save the King!"
Charles became the 40th reigning sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey.
The congregation, which includes 100 heads of state, kings and queens from across the world then replied: "God save the King!"
The King was then officially enthroned as the Archbishop said: "Stand firm, and hold fast from henceforth this seat of royal dignity."
The enthronement traditionally represents the monarch taking possession of his kingdom.
Moments later Camilla was crowned Queen.
The Dean of Westminster handed Queen Mary’s Crown to the Archbishop of Canterbury, before the Archbishop said: "May thy servant Camilla, who wears this crown, be filled by thine abundant grace and with all princely virtues; reign in her heart, O King of love, that, being certain of thy protection, she may be crowned with thy gracious favour; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
Earlier in the ceremony Prince William paid homage to the King.
Prince William was the only blood prince to do so which was a break with royal tradition.

The Prince of Wales mostly avoided eye contact with King Charles through much of the homage.
Prince William then kissed his father on the cheek.
William's son Prince George was also involved in the ceremony as one of the pages of honour.
Prince George is the youngest future monarch to have played an active role in the Coronation.
