Princess Kate and Prince William issue heart-rending statement on anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death

The statement said: "Today we remember the extraordinary life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

"We all miss you. W & C"

Queen Elizabeth II died at 15:10 at Balmoral Castle, aged 96, bringing an end to her 70-year reign.

The official cause of death would later be recorded as “old age”.

King Charles has issued a tribute to his mother to mark the first anniversary of her death.

The King said: "In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty's death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us.

"I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all. Charles R."

Kate and William are visiting Wales today as part of their tribute to the late Queen.

The Prince and Princess of Wales will visit St Davids Cathedral where they will commemorate the life of Queen Elizabeth II in a small private service.

Guests at the service will include local people who met the monarch during her visits to the region.

Prince William's cousin Princess Eugenie also shared a touching tribute to Queen Elizabeth II today.

The royal wrote on Instagram: "Thinking of you today. Missing you so much but remembering what a life of service, love and dedication to everyone and to your family, who loved you so very much.

"Forever grateful to you. And always in my heart."
