Britons issued a plea to the Royal Family as Princess Kate visited Leeds today.

GB News spoke to residents who had gathered at the AW Hainsworth heritage textile mill ahead of the Princess of Wales's appearance.


The mill was originally owned by Kate's great-grandfather, Noel Middleton.

The Princess of Wales's paternal ancestor sold the Middleton family textile business, named William Lupton & Co, to AW Hainsworth in 1958.

Diane and Christine highlighted the importance of the Royal Family undertaking engagements in northern England during their interview with The People's Channel.

Diane said: "It's wonderful, to have her [Princess Kate] in our town, it's just marvellous."

She continued: "All these people here have all come because of that because she's got the link to here and she's spending her time visiting us. It's lovely."

While Christine told GB News: "It's lovely because she has a link to the area with her great-grandfather, [who] owned Mills in Leeds and in Pudsey and then their mills were bought by Hainsworth.

Diane and Christine highlighted the importance of the Royal Family undertaking engagements in northern England.

"So that's her own link to this very mill."

She continued: "I think it's very important that they are seen in places other than London and it is lovely to have her here.

"We often get left out and we shouldn't be. It's lovely to see her."

"She's supported here. People think highly of her and throughout the country, not just London", Christine added.

When asked what message she would send to the Princess of Wales, Diane said: "Thank you for coming. Thank you for showing your face up north.

The royal learned about the weaving process and was given a demonstration of how the fabric is dyed.

Kate was also shown how AW Hainsworth makes the fabric for guardsmen's uniforms at Buckingham Palace

The Prince and Princess of Wales paid tribute to the mill in a post on social media.

They wrote: "The historic AW Hainsworth mill in West Yorkshire is part of the fabric of the UK textiles industry, and it even shares some family ties."
