The monarch and the Princess of Wales are being treated at the same private hospital

Kate and King Charles's hospital stay at The London Clinic has saved the UK taxpayer thousands in security costs, according to royal sources.

The Princess of Wales and the King are both receiving various health treatments at The London Clinic, a luxurious private hospital in the capital.

Kate, 42, underwent "planned abdominal surgery" on January 16, while King Charles received corrective surgery for an enlarged prostate on Friday.

The King, 75, just spent his third night in hospital following the procedure, and the princess is expected to be leaving The Clinic this week.

The fact Kate and Charles have been treated at the same hospital is saving the British taxpayer thousands in security costs.

Had the King picked King Edward VII’s hospital for his treatment, a second bodyguard detail would have been required.

This would have cost an estimated additional cost of £14,000.

An insider claimed: “With the princess similarly at the Clinic, shared resourcing has been possible with regards to public policing.”

The King was said to have felt it hugely important to think about the cost implications for taxpayers.

As Kate and the monarch are being treated in the same hospital, there is only one police presence needed.

The cost of security for the Royal Family is not disclosed to the public by Palace aides or by Scotland Yard.

However, it is estimated to cost around £7,000 per day.

John Moore, Managing Director of Westminster Security, told The Express: "The Met Police could be saving as much as £20,000 over the weekend with King Charles and Princess Kate colocating at the same private hospital by sharing security resources."

Queen Camilla has visited her husband several times since his operation on Friday.

Prince William, 41, has also been spotted visiting his wife since she was admitted to The London Clinic on January 16.

When the King arrived at the hospital for his operation, he was understood to have visited Kate before his procedure.
