The King of Denmark has been enjoying Wimbledon this summer

Denmark's King Frederik shared a sweet moment with the Duchess of Edinburgh when they met at Wimbledon on Monday as they arrived at the royal box on Centre Court.

The 57-year-old Danish monarch and Sophie, 60, were photographed enjoying a brief catch-up in the VIP area, with Frederik visibly amused during their conversation.

The pair took their positions in the front row of the royal box, seated with one space between them, to watch tennis stars including Novak Djokovic, Emma Navarro and Jannik Sinner compete.

Sophie had changed from the dark navy jacket she wore earlier to St Paul's Cathedral into a crisp white blazer for the afternoon's tennis.

The Danish King is currently on a break from official duties, with his 19-year-old son Crown Prince Christian serving as regent until 13 July whilst his father is overseas.

Frederik had also attended Wimbledon on Sunday, watching the match between Chile's Nicolas Jarry and Britain's Cameron Norrie from No. 1 Court.

The monarch appears to have made the trip to London without Queen Mary.

Earlier on Monday, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh had attended a memorial service at St Paul's Cathedral commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 terror attacks.

Sophie then made her way to the tennis championships.

The royal pair have encountered each other at several significant occasions over the years.

Edward and Sophie, who held the titles Earl and Countess of Wessex at the time, were guests at Frederik's wedding to Australian-born Mary Donaldson in Copenhagen in May 2004.

For the pre-wedding gala performance, Sophie wore a grey satin gown with plunging neckline and the diamond floral button tiara.

She chose a striking hot pink outfit paired with her wedding jewels, the Anthemion tiara, for the ceremony itself.

The Danish royal couple later joined Edward and Sophie for a day at Royal Ascot in 2016 during a visit to Britain.
