'We become a little bit less British every day,' Farage lamented

Nigel Farage has demanded a halt on migration after the arrival of millions of people in Britain who "do not share our values".

The Reform UK chief, speaking at a VE Day event a week after his party surged to local elections triumph across England, said "cultural damage" and "broken communities" were rife nationwide thanks to bumper immigration.

"We have to call a halt. A 10 million rise in the last 20 years has devalued the quality of life for everybody, damaged us culturally, broken up our communities, broken up our sense of patriotism, and belief," he fumed.

"And you know what? Not everything is about big business employers."

Britain has "nothing in common" with the "millions of people that we've allowed" through the UK border, Farage told the Express.

"Many of those that have come in the last 20 years do not share our values," he continued. "In a sense, we become a little bit less British every day. And I do view that as being a problem."

His damning assessment of Britain's migration failures just as reports emerged Labour would move to launch a major integration drive to push immigrants to speak "fluent English".

Migrants will soon be required to boost their proficiency or face a decade-long wait to secure permanent residency under new rules to be announced next week.

Currently, migrants only need to demonstrate a basic understanding of English, but ministers now deem this insufficient for proper integration into British society.

Under the new proposals, the English language requirement will be raised from the current GCSE-level standard to the equivalent of an A-level in English as a foreign language.

But his call for a halt followed the arrival of more than 10,000 small boat migrants across the English Channel in the first four months of 2025.

'We all want to end dangerous small boat crossings, which threaten lives and undermine our border security,' Yvette Cooper's Home Office said after 10,000 migrants arrived in Britain this year

"We all want to end dangerous small boat crossings, which threaten lives and undermine our border security," the Home Office said following the grim milestone.

"The people-smuggling gangs do not care if the vulnerable people they exploit live or die, as long as they pay and we will stop at nothing to dismantle their business models and bring them to justice.

"That is why this government has put together a serious plan to take down these networks at every stage."
